Recently, the story of the Widow’s Oil has been highlighted to me. It’s a powerful account from the Bible found in 2 Kings 4:1-7. This short passage is rich with lessons about faith, obedience, and God’s provision.
We’ll explore it in greater depth during my Wisdom Wednesday with Winell series on YouTube, so be sure to subscribe and turn on your notifications so you don’t miss it.
For today, I want to focus on one particular aspect of this story: the act of pouring.
The Act of Pouring
Many of us have read this story, marveling at the power of God and yearning to experience that kind of overflow in our lives. But how often do we overlook what it takes to position ourselves for such miracles?
The prophet Elisha gave the widow a series of instructions, one of which was to pour the little oil she had into all the empty vessels she could gather. When I researched, I learned that the jar of oil she had was likely a small flask—a limited resource by all appearances.
Now, imagine standing there, pouring from that tiny jar into vessel after vessel. How long would it have taken her? How tiring must it have been to keep pouring until every single one was full?

My question to you today is this: How long are you willing to pour?
Staying Positioned for God’s Miracle
Many of us long to see God’s hand move in miraculous ways, but few are willing to remain in position long enough for Him to complete what He has started.
How easily do you give up when cultivating new habits—habits that position you for where God is leading you?
How quickly do you abandon the work the Lord has called you to because it feels overwhelming or because you don’t see immediate results?
The truth is, miracles often require persistence, obedience, and faith in the unseen. Just like the widow, we must trust that what we’re pouring—though it seems small—will be enough.
Scriptures for Reflection
Here are some Scriptures to meditate on as you consider how long you’re willing to pour:
Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
2 Corinthians 5:7: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Hebrews 10:36: “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”
Reflection Questions
What “vessels” has God called you to pour into during this season of your life?
Are there areas where you’ve been tempted to stop pouring because the process feels too long or difficult?
How can you remind yourself to stay positioned for God’s provision and timing?

Final Encouragement
I don’t know what you’re believing God for at the moment, but I do know this: God is a God of principles and order. As Kingdom-driven women, we are called to do all things in alignment with His Word and to remain faithful, even when the process feels long.
Just as the widow experienced an overflow when she obeyed and persisted, you too can see the miraculous when you choose to stay the course. Keep pouring, and trust that God will provide in His perfect timing.
